Citypaper, February 26

I'm all over this week's Citypaper, starting with the cover, my second interview piece with Philly-area-born identical twin animators/eccentrics the Brothers Quay. The brothers will be in town in conjunction with an exhibition of the decors (read: sets) from their films and an award ceremony/screenings at the Film Festival.

Also, a feature on the Painted Bride's Big Ears project, a residency with drummer/composer John Hollenbeck, culminating in performances by his Large Ensemble and a 12-piece ensemble of Philly musicians; a pick for the second of three Ars Nova Workshop-presented Composer Portraits of Julius Hemphill, this one featuring his big band music performed by Bobby Zankel's Warriors of the Wonderful Sound, supplemented by Marty Ehrlich; Soundadvice blurbs for Stebmo and Matt Wilson's Arts and Crafts; a film sidebar on I-House's screening of Urgh! A Music War, waxing nostalgic for Night Flight; a review of Two Lovers; and a pick for PMA's new "Cezanne and Beyond" show.
